Analysis and Validation of Information Access Through Mono, Multidimensional and Dynamic Taxonomies
نویسنده
چکیده
Access to complex information bases through multidimensional, dynamic taxonomies (also improperly known as faceted classifications) is becoming a hot concept both in research and in industry. In this paper, the major shortcomings of conventional, monodimensional taxonomic approaches, such as the independence of different branches of the taxonomy and insufficient scalability, are discussed. The dynamic taxonomy approach, the first and most complete model for multidimensional taxonomic access to date, is reviewed and compared to conventional taxonomies. We analyze the reducing power of dynamic taxonomies and conventional taxonomies and report experimental results on real data, which confirm that monodimensional taxonomies are not useful for browsing/retrieval on large databases, whereas dynamic taxonomies can effectively manage very large databases and exhibit a very fast convergence. Results in Dynamic Taxonomy and Faceted
Metadata access to complex information bases through multidimensional, dynamic taxonomies (aka faceted search) is rapidly becoming a hot topic both in research and in industry, where e-commerce applications based on this access paradigm are becoming pervasive. The dynamic taxonomy model was the first model to fully exploit multidimensional classification schemes and to integrate query and explo...
متن کاملAuthorization models for secure information sharing: a survey and research agenda
This article presents a survey of authorization models and considers their 'fitness-for-purpose' in facilitating information sharing. Network-supported information sharing is an important technical capability that underpins collaboration in support of dynamic and unpredictable activities such as emergency response, national security, infrastructure protection, supply chain integration and emerg...
متن کاملA semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments
Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...
متن کاملA context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments
Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...
متن کاملExploratory Access to Wikipedia through Faceted Dynamic Taxonomies
Users currently access Wikipedia through two traditional paradigms, text search and hypertext navigation. We believe that user access can be significantly improved by supporting a systematic conceptual exploration of the knowledge base through dynamic taxonomies with a faceted taxonomy organization. This approach allows the easy manipulation of sets of documents and the systematic and intuitive...
